[for those of you early birds in Goldenrod, downtown, the video screen flickers to show--

the main street has been covered with sidewalk chalk drawings of dubious nature. there are several buckets of chalk scattered down the street, broken and whittled-down chalk pieces dotting the landscape amongst chalk drawings big and small, childish and masterful. there are cartoonish doodles of cacti, drawings of eyes, large, unwieldy birds and open books with fanciful, mythical creatures popping out of its pages. general outlines of gowns, chalk sketches of hands, shaded in, abstract pieces of shapes and lines that stretch as far as the eye can see.

it's only nine in the morning, and the streets are already filled with drawings. on a fairly blank patch of concrete, surrounded by the city proper, the culprit is hunkered down diligently, doodling small, cartoon kittens with large eyes and whiskers that end in flowers.

Hmm, perhaps a 6? I'm sadly rather out of practice.

No, it sounds just fine. I'm currently sitting at a respectable 7-- any higher, and the assistant would've surpassed the one he should be assisting.

How should I expect you?

Oh, don't sell yourself short. Some of those looked like they'd require at least an 8.

I don't see why not. Kansas is just a metaphor, anyway, along with Dorothy, Oz and the yellow brick road.

You'd think so. Cats are cute, aren't they.

Unless they're attempting to claw you to death, yes.

The flowers are a nice touch.

A beginning chalk-drawing assistant assists by handing the right chalk colours over, of course.

But I think you're a little bit beyond that stage.

I do think I can be somewhat more useful than that, yes. What does an immediate assistant do, then?

Mm, amusing wouldn't be the term I'd go for, today.

That's a fairly loaded question, isn't it? I think today I'm inclined to say "more cooperative doors".

Windows don't serve quite the same function, though, do they? They're mostly for looking through, not actually moving through.
